About Us
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Commission (IPSC) is an independent body that investigates workplace matters involving Commonwealth parliamentary workplace (CPW) participants. The IPSC supports safe and respectful workplaces for parliamentarians, their staff and other people who work in a CPW.
The IPSC is established under the Parliamentary Workplace Support Service Act 2023.
In 2024, the Australian Parliament endorsed the Behaviour Codes and Standards for Parliamentarians, their staff and people working in CPWs to ensure they are treated with the highest standards of integrity, dignity, safety and mutual respect.
The Commissioners are empowered to investigate breaches of Behaviour Codes and Standards that apply to persons that work or volunteer in CPWs. The Commissioners may recommend and impose sanctions, and may prepare public statements for non-compliance. Subject to Commonwealth laws, the Commissioners have discretion in the performance or exercise of their functions or powers and are not subject to direction by any person.

The IPSC and the Commissioners also have other roles under the Act and other Commonwealth laws. These include certain information-sharing functions under the Act and functions relating to the making of public statements about conduct issues.
